Monica was placed at in September 2017. According to her clinic card, she is 2.5 years old, though she weighs less than 14 lbs (just over 6kg) and is unable to crawl, stand, or walk. Her mother has passed away and her father lives in another region. She has been cared for by her grandmother who has been leaving her at home with a 10 year old girl every day while she goes to work. However, neighbors reported that the girl typically does not stay at home and Monica is therefore left completely alone for most of the day, which is how she was found today. The grandmother reports having nobody else to help her care for Monica. After discussions with the grandmother and local leaders, it was agreed that Monica will come to Neema House because of serious concerns about her immediate health and safety while other plans are made for her long-term care.
